The difference between Vector and Vexel ArtAfter writing my first article on an introduction to getting into vexel and vector art, a question was raised to do with the differences between the art forms.
I guess being so engrossed with the art forms for over 6 years now, I've taken my knowledge for granted. It's typical of any artist in most genres. What knowledge and skill set we have is second nature. So my second article, I'd like to show and explain you the differences between Vexel and Vector art. So I present to you, the dummies guide to the difference between vexel and vector art!
Looking straight at the work, it's hard to tell the difference between a skillfully created vexel and a vector. This is because they are not a style of art, but a medium of art.
When we say a "medium" we mean with how a piece of art is created or what with. For instance we have both traditional and digital paintings. A traditional painting is created with, for example,

Digital Painting weeklySo you guys may have noticed that I have a tiny soft spot for digital painting. It is quite popular here on dA but I noticed that regrettably very few people are actually making devoted features for it. In fact, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is lovelessdevotions and if you haven't yet seen her weekly series, you should head there right now because you're in for a treat.
It's a guilty pleasure and an almost meditative practice for me to browse through the digital painting category and I always end up with a lot of new favourites. But it's a shame to just leave them there when I can share them with you. Unlike Artstation dA's front page isn't curated and the algorithm often favours a lot of art that I personally don't find inspiring. It can take some digging to get to the gems. However, dA offers the fantastic opportunity for us to curate art ourselves through our journals. And since I'm no stranger to taking advantage of this opportunity I thought I'd share w

Art Theft: your [copy] right and responsibility!People are often concerned with online art theft and it's usually one the main reason artists are nervous about posting their artwork online: "What if someone steals my work and claims it as their own?" Worse still, "What if they sell it and make money from my work?" Whether its for profit or not is beside the point; our hard work and creativity means a lot to all of us, and to have someone simply save our image and post it as their own work often feels like a slap in the face.
deviantART is a big place, and with nearly 45 million deviations (at the time this news article was posted), its an easy target for art theft. Often, you wont know your work is stolen, and if you do it's often too late; sometimes still, there's little you can do about having it removed from the grips of whoever stole it. While it is your right to demand protection for your work and websites to remove illegally displayed art work, its also imp

Funky, Fresh, and Totally VintageI've noticed a trend spreading all over Deviantart: the love of anything and everything vintage. The classy, trendy, yet outdated look can be found rampant in the photography that spans this site. It's as if the grime and scratches result in a funkier, fresher look.
The vibrant color that shines through these look-alike images of the past gets a ton of feedback, and why not? I have to admit, I'm incredibly drawn to this sort of stylistic fervor the following pictures stir up. I believe they achieve nothing less than an old-fashioned sex appeal.

Magazines and Journals looking for your work.I have compiled a brief list of Magazines and Journals that accept unsolicited submissions from writers and artists of varying levels of experience.
What unsolicited means is that you may send them your work without being asked for it first. Also, if you just follow their submission guidelines, there is typically no need for a cover letter either. If you would still like to include a cover letter, please make sure it is concise and professional.
The publications listed accept everything from Poetry to Fiction to Visual Artwork.
I hope this helps some of you become a little more knowledgeable about the industry and pushes you to just take the leap and submit your work. You never know until you try.
One last note: Most magazines and journals do not accept simultaneous submissions. What that means is that you must only submit your piece to one publication at a time. It is a waiting game to hear back from them, b
